EL SERPENTARIO
The Serpentarium is an animal rescue center where we will have the opportunity to share with free and fully domesticated animals, we will be able to appreciate the most famous snakes such as anacondas, mantonas and other small animals as well as: monkeys, sloths, toucans, parrots, prehistoric tortoise, and macaws, etc. At the Iquitos Serpentarium you will have the opportunity to be very close and take pictures with the animals.
PILPINTUWASI
Pilpintuwasi is a mandatory tourist attraction to visit when one is in Iquitos It is well preserved and maintained by the owners Gudrun Sperrer and Roblar Moreno; It is considered an animal rescue center or orphanage, where you can find a variety of monkeys, parrots, a jaguar, a tapir, an anteater, and various turtles and alligators. But what best describes it is, a butterfly farmSuffice it to say that Gudrun is doing valuable work, trying to preserve some of the world's most precious creatures and the natural environment.
LA ISLA DE LOS MONOS
Called 'Monkey Island' in English, La Isla de los Monos is a 450 hectare island sanctuary and rescue centre located 30km from Iquitos in the Amazon jungle of Peru.Our project rescues, rehabilitates and releases New World monkeys.Since 1997 we have dedicated ourselves to the care of monkeys that have been victims of illegal animal trafficking. We believe in freedom for the animals, that they should not be trapped in cages or victims of illegal trade.During your visit, you can observe a variety of species in their natural habitat and learn about how we care for young monkeys so they grow strong, healthy and independent.
INSECTARIO MACRODONTE
The Insect Farm is a guided walking tour where you can learn about the smaller friends of the Amazon Jungle. Including frogs, spiders, beetles, ants and more. Additionally, the farm teaches you about the history of Iquitos and the wonders of the Amazon. For instance: the Rubber Boom and the impact on indigenous communities; how to extract juice from sugar cane; and how the jungle provides natural medicines for modern diseases. You will even have the opportunity to purchase traditionally made remedies, drinks and ointments.
